What is ISO 9001?ISO 9001:2008 is part of the ISO 9000 family of standards, and is the document that lists the requirements an organization must comply with to become ISO 9001 Registered. ISO 9001 is an internationally recognized Quality Management System. This means what the organization does to fulfill the customer’s quality requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements, while aiming to enhance customer satisfaction, and achieve continual improvement of its performance in pursuit of these objectives. As an internationally known Quality Management System, ISO 9001 provides a framework for a comprehensive process-based QMS. ISO 9001 uses a process approach to quality, which acknowledges that all of the functions of a company (from R&D, to sales processing, to product manufacturing) combine to form a customer’s perception of the company. ISO 9001 evaluates whether your quality management system is appropriate and effective, while forcing you to identify and implement improvements. Continuous improvement assures your customers benefit by receiving products/services that meet their requirements, and that you deliver consistent performance. ISO 9001 does NOT define the actual quality of your product or service. The standard helps you achieve consistent results and continually improve the process. Thus, if you can make a good product most of the time, this helps you make it all of the time. It’s just good business practices. ISO 9001 is about managing the interaction of these processes to allow Micron to continually meet and exceed our customers’ expectations in regards to product consistency and efficacy, while also satisfying all statutory and regulatory requirements. We do this by controlling our processes using a system of Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, and Records to document every step of the manufacturing process, from design and development of new products, to raw material procurement, to physical manufacturing of the product, to final delivery of the finished product to the customer. At Micron all of these processes are routinely audited against documented procedures to ensure that they are consistent and effective each and every time. Processes that rely on other companies, either as manufacturers of raw materials, or provision of transportation for delivery, are also tightly controlled through the selection of Approved Suppliers that have shown the ability to meet the requirements established by Micron. The ISO 9001 certification is applied to the whole company, rather than to individual products. Being a registered ISO 9001 company means that Micron’s processes are fully implemented and continuously improved upon with a focus on improving customer satisfaction. |
