We started using MicroZyme slurry pit treatment in July 2007. We had been using another pit product for 12 years. One building was a 300 head modified open front with an 8 ft. wide by 8 ft. deep pit that was built in 1979. We thought that the competitive product was doing quite well, but when we pumped out in September, the manure was much more liquid and we were able to get the entire pit pumped out from just one pump-out port as the waste flow to it was that good and the pit was almost completely empty. Another 700 head fully-slatted building, which was built in 1998, had pit treatment since the first hogs went in. We pumped that out in December of 2007. In the past, when the pit was about 2/3 empty, the manure would be thick enough that it would flow slowly to the pump-outs. This year it flowed readily and kept level in the pit. We treat our pits on a monthly schedule. We have a part time man that keeps the schedule and applies the MicroZyme. Eric Isemhagen Deshler, NE |
